A lot of people have been turning to horror, science fiction, and fantasy during the pandemic. But those genres aren't just for escaping–they've also long been a way to help people see the real world in new ways. A version of this booming right now focuses on stories by and about Black people called Afrofuturism. John Jennings is an illustrator, graphic novelist, and professor of media and cultural studies at the University of California Riverside.
