Henry Ford and Thomas Edison planned to build an American utopia, pollution-free and fully electrified with the help of a dam, in economically depressed Alabama. But a stubborn Nebraskan senator stood in his way. To get around him and achieve his dream, Ford hatched a campaign for the presidency of the United States. Ford eventually gave up the fight, but his ideas survived in FDR's New Deal. Guest: Thomas Hager, author of "Electric City: The Lost History of Ford and Edison’s American Utopia"
