The Regent Honeyeater is a little, bright yellow songbird native to Australia and it’s on the verge of extinction. In the meantime, Regent Honeyeaters' are forgetting how to sing their song. And if the male birds can’t sing the right song, they can’t attract a female mate, so the spiral toward extinction accelerates. Ross Crates is on a team of researchers at Australian National University working on ways to help the Regent Honeyeaters get their groove back. (Originally aired April 28th, 2021)
