Agam Darshi discusses her first film, now available on Netflix, and how she worked to respectfully bring Sikh prayer rituals to the screen in an authentic and respectful manner. AGAM DARSHI is an award winning storyteller: actress/writer/director and producer. Born in England and raised all over Canada, she is currently residing in Los Angeles, California. Agam has a BFA in visual arts and theatre from the University of Calgary, and has been a professional actress for over sixteen years, working internationally and garnering awards. She recently wrapped on Ava DuVernay’s pilot DMZ for HBOMAX, as Mia Franklin, working opposite Rosario Dawson. She also wrapped a lead role on Oscar nominated director Deepa Mehta’s newest film FUNNY BOY based on Shyam Selvadurai’s best selling novel, for which Agam was nominated for a CANADIAN SCREEN AWARD IN 2021. Agam wrote, produced and directed DONKEYHEAD IN 2021. The film, starring Agam as Mona Ghuman, also stars Kim Coates (Son’s of Anarchy), Sandy Sidhu (Nurses), Stephen Lobo (Nancy Drew, Snow Piercer) and Husein Mandhavji (Shitt’s Creek), was Executive Produced by Deepa Mehta and funded by TELEFILM CANADA. DONKEYHEAD was acquired by Array Distribution and will be premiering on Netflix USA/UK/AUS/NZ on January 21 2022 and premiered at MISAFF where it won Best Feature Film Award, Best Support Actor, and Best Editing.
