The Cats that Sailed the Seven Seas Guest: Philippa Sandall, author, “Seafurrers,” and coauthor, “Trim: The Cartographer’s Cat” Cats are great seafarers, turns out. And they've been important shipmates for centuries. Here are some of their tales from the high seas. Flinders Guest: Gillian Dooley, Honorary Senior Research Fellow, English, Flinders University, and co-author, "Trim: The Cartographer’s Cat" The famous explorer Trim, a beloved black cat with white paws and chin, and his human, Matthew Flinders, are memorialized in several statues across Australia. Earthrise Guest: Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee; Emmy nominated filmmaker, and director of "Earthrise: The Image that Shared our World" The Apollo 8 mission captured an image of Earth that amazed the billion people watching it on TV at the time: the cratered but barren surface of the moon in the foreground, and the earth in the black sky beyond, nearly half-eclipsed by the shadow of the moon. Referring to this view, Command Module Pilot Jim Lovell said, "The vast loneliness is awe-inspiring and it makes you realize just what you have back there on Earth."  How the "Earthrise" photo changed our perspective on our planet. NASA's Solar Orbiter Mission Guest: Holly Gilbert, Director, Heliophysics Science Division, NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, and NASA Project Scientist for Solar Orbiter NASA has launched the Solar Orbiter probe that will take the first-ever pictures of the sun’s poles and make revolutionary measurements of the sun’s magnetic field and radiation.
