Guest: Charlie Engle, writer, ultramathoner, recovering addict, and subject of the Matt Damon-produced documentary "Running the Sahara." Engle is also a motivational speaker and author of "Running Man: A Memoir of Ultra-Endurance" Ultramarathoner Charlie Engle turned to running when he hit rock bottom after a six-day alcohol and cocaine binge. Coming out of addiction, however, has had its ups and downs. In a record-breaking run across the Sahara Desert, Charlie challenged physical affliction and raised millions for charity. The Matt Damon-produced film about the run brought Engle fame, but he eventually landed in federal prison on a disputed white-collar charge. There, he fought emotional hardship and shared his love for running with his fellow inmates, changing many lives. Charlie’s story shows how in the right mindset we can overcome anything—one step at a time.
