Currently Professor of Violin at the Federal University of Mato Grosso Brazil, Oliver Yatsugafu has developed an intense career as a chamber musician, soloist and teacher. He has performed with various groups, including the ART Piano Trio, and acted as a soloist with various Brazilian orchestras such as the Orquestra Petrobras Pro-Music, Symphony Orchestra of Paraná, the Symphony Orchestra of Bahia, Soloists Orchestra of Londrina Camerata Florianópolis, under the baton of Roberto Tibiriçá, Peter Frank, Luis Petri, Jeferson Della Rocca and Boyko Stoianov, among others. Besides Brazil and the United States, it has performed in countries like Italy, Portugal, Austria, China, Japan and Australia. He has been a violin teacher for nearly twenty years, having taught master classes and lectured at conferences, festivals, workshops, seminars and courses organized by universities. He was artistic director of the two editions of the Santa Catarina String Workshop. In addition to the violin and viola, Dr. Yatsugafu is also dedicated to conducting. In this exclusive interview conducted by Steven Kapp Perry, Oliver shares some of his best insights into the world of concert violin performance and pedagogy.
