A child who’s really smart or learns quickly could take advanced classes, skip a grade and graduate early. But there’s long been a concern that academic acceleration like that could negatively affect a child’s social and emotional well-being. To find out, a research team followed children who academically accelerated for more than 35 years –well into adulthood. David Lubinski is co-author of the research and a Professor of Psychology and Human Development at Vanderbilt University. He spoke with Top of Mind’s Ciara Hulet about their findings.
