Today, the balloons of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade are nearly inseparable from the holiday itself. However, the balloons debuted less than 100 years ago as the larger-than-life idea of Tony Sarg, a man who taught himself puppetry and realized he could use this art form to create the gigantic parade balloons.
