There are about 18,000 different police departments in the United States, and each one has a different way of posting its arrest and citation data online. There’s not one national, searchable database where you can go to find out how police interactions break down based on things like race or gender. Kristin Tynski and her group of volunteer coders at the Police Data Accessibility Project are trying to solve the problem.
