His areas of expertise include ancient Greek history (with a particular focus on Sparta), sport history (including the ancient Olympics), and the relationship between sport and political systems. The 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games are underway and Rio is facing some difficult challenges with the threat of the Zika virus, civil unrest, political turmoil, & construction cost overruns. Dr. Christensen feels that the games have become too big and has some ideas on how to adjust the games so they can be better managed and enjoyed all over the world.
