After Justice Scalia’s death, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, was quick to voice his opinion on Obama’s pending announcement of a successor. McConnell stated, “The American people? should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new President.” There has been extensive attention on the senate’s refusal to meet and the potential nominees that Obama would submit. So why is the senate refusing to meet? And why was McConnell so quick to delaying a nomination.
