There is a rare type of dream where people know they are having a dream. This lucid dreaming allows people to take control of the dream. Northwestern University Ph.D. candidate Karen Konkoly and other researchers have discovered that they can communicate with lucid dreamers in that state, and the dreamer can communicate back to the researchers - without waking up.
