The first performance of Henry Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas” was at a girl’s school in 1688. Although the opera takes little more than an hour to perform, it’s largely considered to be one of the finest English operas written before the 20th century, and it’s an important milestone in operatic history. “Dido and Aeneas” is a tragic love story complete with hopes, heroes, and heartbreak.  Westminster College has visited us today to share selections from their upcoming production of “Dido and Aeneas.” This is their first fully staged opera, and Michael Chipman’s (head of the voice program) directorial debut.  Host: Steven Kapp Perry  Singers: Corinne Rydman, Hilary Olson, Kellie Burke-Gabossi, Christopher Stockslager, Jeffrey Pedersen, Christy Peterson, Anna Hunter, Andrew Olsen, Edward Lopez, Allie Hurtado, Garrett Schoonover, Julianne Cottam  Conductor: Brian Stucki  Pianist: Kimi Kawashima Follow Highway 89 on twitter: @byuh89 and on instagram: @byuh89
