It’s a life-saving liquid, obviously. And so powerful, that blood is a banned substance for elite athletes. It’s also a valuable commodity – once you or I donate a pint, it is broken into components, brokered and sold around the world before entering the veins of a patient in need. And that’s strange because we generally think of selling organs as unethical. Blood is also a body part, so why doesn’t its global trade trouble us?
