Native American Quest for Independence During Revolutionary Times

Guest: David Andrew Nichols, PhD, professor of history, Indiana State University, author of "Peoples of the Inland Sea: Native Americans and Newcomers in teh Great Lakes Region, 1600-1870" It’s the 4th of July holiday week and we’re all busting with patriotism over the heroic victory of the scrappy American colonists over Britain. One of the great ironies of America’s War for Independence is that it led to a loss of freedom for our country’s original inhabitants who, at a certain point after the colonists arrived, actually envisioned banding together as tribes to form their own independent nation of “United Indians.”  Today we're going to look at that history.
