There’s so much information on the Internet that it’s now possible to solve crimes and uncover wrongdoing just by looking at what’s publicly available—including things like social media posts and free satellite maps. Bellingcat is an organization doing this new kind of open-source investigation. They’ve discovered that the Russian military was involved with the downing of the Malaysian Airlines Flight 17, years before European officials confirmed that. They also figured out who poisoned MI6 double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter. Eliot Higgins, the founder of Bellingcat, explains how they do it. (Segment produced by Abby Haralson).
