A member of the Sac and Fox Nation, he became, in 1912, the first Native American to win Olympic Gold medals for the United States. When the Olympic Committee found out that his school had been paid $2 a game, on his behalf, to play two seasons of semi-professional baseball, they stripped him of his title and gold medals.
