We think about luck, green, and leprechauns around St. Patrick's Day, but how did the holiday start? St. Patrick was the patron saint of Ireland. He was not actually born there, but was taken there as a slave as a teenager. He ended up escaping slavery but returned later as a missionary to bring Christianity to the people. St. Patrick’s day marks the anniversary of his death. Since then it has become a celebration of Irish heritage and culture.
