In most cities, a call to 911 brings the police and/or an ambulance, but there are lots of calls for things like trespassing or someone experiencing a mental health episode that don’t need response from an officer with a gun. Six months ago, Denver started sending a social worker and a medic out on some of those calls, instead. Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen shares the status of the pilot project he’s hoping to expand.
