Racial Stereotypes and the NFL
Sep 27, 2017
16m
Guest: Patrick Ferrucci, PhD, Assistant Professor of Journalism, University of Colorado Boulder There’s a lot of debate right now about whether or not a pro-football game is the place for political protest, and whether kneeling during the national anthem is an appropriate way to do it. If the protest is about racial inequality, an NFL game is, in some ways the perfect place, for it.

Internal Clocks Keep Us Healthy
Sep 27, 2017
18m
Guest: Carrie Partch, PhD, Professor of Biochemistry, University of California, Santa Cruz The problem with jet lag is not just that you’re tired, it’s that, no matter how tired you are, your body won’t sleep when it’s nighttime. Your internal clock is all messed up. And that’s not just a metaphor. Almost every cell in your body has a timing mechanism – a clock – with the ability to affect your sleep, your weight and even how well medicine works for you.

Guest: Lauren Rebecca Sklaroff, PhD, Professor of History, University of South Carolina Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger and Joan Baez built their careers voicing the anti-war sentiment of the protest movement. But, as the new PBS documentary makes painfully clear, everything about the Vietnam War was complicated. And the same goes for the music of the era.

A DACA Recipient Speaks Out
Sep 27, 2017
13m
Guest: Jose Franco, Recipient of DACA, BYU graduate The clock is ticking on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program – or DACA. It will expire under President Trump’s order in six months, unless Congress acts to protect the 800,000 undocumented young people who are currently able to work and study in the US without fear of deportation because of DACA. I’m joined in studio by one of those young people.
