Mr. AndersonThe Apple Seed • Season 2013, Episode 1401
Jul 2, 2020 • 57m
For some reason, the school bus is a story cultivator. Maybe it was the rickety, loud, friend-filled atmosphere, or the much-loathed seating chart, or even the songs you sung along the way. But one thing is for certain. That strange, liminal, in-transit world of the school bus had a ruler: the bus driver. And as much as scholars may point to the Greek tragedy or the Shakespearean romance as the origin of legendary heroes and villains, they clearly never rode a bus to school. The bus driver is truly storytelling’s most divisive character: they either triumph as a hero of the people or live on as an evil arbiter of grade school indignity. Both bus driver archetypes have become legends, so today, we’re bringing you tales of school-sponsored transportation and all its associated hijinks from Jeff Gere, Bill Harley, and Tim Lowry.
On today’s episode, enjoy the following:
"Get On The Bus!" by Jeff Gere on Silly n' Spooky: Tales of Kids in Hawaii
"Mr. Anderson" by Bill Harley on From the Back of the Bus
"Charley Parkhurst" by Tim Lowry on Cowboys & Indians
“Public Transport Story” by Brenda Wong-Aoki
