You can pull out of your own lane and safely pause to wait for a window to dart across oncoming traffic. But miscalculate and things can turn deadly in a flash. Left turns are a major cause of fatal traffic crashes, which is why engineers at BYU say the busiest roads should have concrete medians that keep people from turning left.
