Month of Phobias: Trypophobia (0:00:00) Welcome to our phobia segment. Every week in October, we are featuring the weird, creepy, and outlandish phobias from our team here at the Lisa Show. This week we are featuring some truly strange phobias. Our producer Liana and student producer Ruby share what makes their skin crawl. Liana’s fear of trypophobia is quite strange and unusual. Let’s figure out more about this aversion. To help us understand this fear of holes is Dr. Arnold Wilkins from the University of Essex. ABSee (0:13:18) We all know someone who wears contacts or glasses, but did you know that there are probably more of our friends that should wear glasses but don’t? According to one organization, one in four people in the US have undetected vision problems. That means they can’t see the leaves on trees or, more importantly for our kids, the words their teachers write on the board. That’s why Pearle Vision, a company that owns 500 eye care centers, teamed up with the non-profit OneSight to create ABSee. Doug Zarkin, CEO of Pearle Vision, joins us today to talk about ABSee and their goal to visit schools across North America to provide eye care and glasses at no cost to those children in need. ADHD Awareness (0:24:36) What do Michael Phelps, Steve Jobs and Adam Lavine have in common? They all have ADHD. Who do you know that deals with ADHD? Do you know what they experience on a day-to-day basis? October is ADHD Awareness Month, and today we have ADHD coach Cory Henderson, and therapist LaNae Valentine, to teach us moreabout what this disorderactually is, and how we can best help those that have it. Water Tech (0:39:20) Tech expert Joel Jacobs talks with Lisa about the current status of world tech in purifying the world's water supply. Social Media and Comedy (0:50:36) Are social media and technology changing the way we think things are funny? We want to discuss this world of comedy today. We have friend to the show and comedian, Mike Brody, here today to talk about his perspective on the world of comedy and to share with us about his special on Dry Bar Comedy called “Not Afraid of Butterflies.” Positive Relationship with Food (1:06:32) Diet trends, fast food commercials, fashion magazines, pinterest ideas. . . all day you’ve been bombarded with “eat this, not that,” get thin quick schemes, and more. In a society overridden with varying opinions on what you should eat, it can be hard to have a healthy relationship with food. Maybe you’ve limited yourself so much from the food you love that you’re miserable, or maybe you punish yourself by eating too much. Laura Silver is a registered dietitian-nutritionist from New York who has a passion for helping people enjoy real, whole foods –without totally compromising on the foods they love. With her unique perspective and professional background, we thought she’d be the perfect person to talk to about how we can have a healthy relationship with food. Mini Book Club: Books on Leadership (1:25:19) Rachel Wadham of BYU Radio's World's Awaiting talks with Lisa about the perfect books to read to become a better leader. Nightmares (1:33:39) Christopher Drapeau and Michael Nadorff talk with Lisa about why we have nightmares and what we can do to overcome them.
