In a famous poem by Emily Dickenson it is stated that “’Hope’ is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul, and sings the tune without the words, that never stops at all.” Hope is such an important part of life. Whether it shows up in the hopeful ear of a father during a football game, the hope of future uses of old supplies, or the hope of better connections and familial relationships- hope is integral to all of it. Hope is what keeps us going through difficult times and it is what mends us back together. Hope sees us through intense, difficult trials like losing a loved one, as well as simple problems such as deciding whether or not a pan is worth keeping. Just the simple idea that the future will be better, the possibility of a vibrant story yet to come, can be all that’s needed to continue on.
