Who knew that an impromptu concert for cows could lead to fame and glory? That’s how it’s happened for the New Hot 5, a New Orleans style jazz band, that played for some heifers in the French Alps, video-taped the performance  and posted it on YouTube. The video has been featured on Good Morning America, the Today Show, Conan O’Brien, Fox News, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the Huffington Post, even the NHK News of Japan and UK’s Metro News.  The New Hot 5 (left to right) are: Clark Burnside (clarinet), Daniel Henderson (trumpet, vocals), Will Kimball (trombone), Steve Call (tuba) and Joshua Payne (banjo)  MUSIC: "Dippermouth Blues" Joe "King" Oliver; "Muskrat Ramble" Edward "Kid" Ory; "Si tu vois ma mere" Sidney Bechet; "12th Street Rag" Euday L. Bowman; "Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans?" Eddie DeLange and Louis Alter; "Basin Street Blues" Clarence Williams; "When the Saints Go Marching In"  Joshua Payne used to be a banjo busker on the streets of New York but today he heads the popular Salt Lake City ensemble “The Joshua Payne Orchestra.” Dr. Steve Call is faculty at BYU and has had all the other members of The New Hot 5 as students at one time or another.  Follow Highway 89 on twitter @byuH89
