More than half of the nearly 88,000 wild horses and burros that roam free are in Nevada, where an animal rights advocacy group has undertaken an impressive volunteer effort to inject mares with contraceptives. Suzanne Roy sees it as a more humane approach to keeping the wild horse population under control. Roy directs the American Wild Horse Campaign which is doing the contraception work in Nevada.
