Imagine for a second you are in the kitchen cooking and the recipe calls for a can of evaporated milk. You go into the pantry and you know you have three cans on the second shelf, but you can’t remember if it’s the evaporated milk on the right or a can of soup. Unfortunately for you, the print is too small and you can’t read the label... Do you just grab the can and hope for the best? Do you shake it and see if the consistency gives you any clue as to the content of the can? For nearly 12 million people in the United States ages 40 and over that scenario is more than just mental exercise in decision making, but a daily reality. Visual impairments and blindness cause dilemmas and barriers to those seeking to live independently. One app, Be My Eyes, looks to provide the vital assistance for blind and low-vision people in their daily activities. Here with us today is the vice president of Be My Eyes, Will Butler, to tell us more about what this app is and how we can get involved.
