History of Kwanzaa (0:00:00) Between gift shopping and food prep and planning for the month, it can be easy to lose track of why we’re even celebrating during the holiday season. One of the greatest things about the holidays we celebrate is that it helps us to remember the most important things in our lives: our family, our faith, even our heritage. Today, we’re talking about a holiday that has quite an incredible story: Kwanzaa. Founded by Dr. Maulana Karenga in 1966, Kwanzaa is a 7 day African American festival that celebrates culture, family and community from December 26 to January 1. Joining us is Jessica “Culture Queen” Hebron, an award-winning author and speaker, to give us the history of Kwanzaa and how it’s relevant to us. How to Help an Angry Child (0:17:11) It’s happening again. You’ve just told your daughter she can’t have ice cream for breakfast for the seventh time, and she starts to scrunch up her face. You brace yourself for the coming meltdown and, sure enough, five seconds later, she’s on the floor kicking and screaming. This much anger is definitely not normal. Or is it? Dr. Weston Spencer, a pediatrician and mental health specialist for young children, joins us to talk about helping your kids cope with anger.. End of Year Tipping (0:34:21) Something truly special about this time of year is all the love that goes around. If you are looking for ways to spread holiday cheer, a great way is to tip a little extra to those who already serve you. This can mean tipping your hairdresser, the newspaper delivery person, or your building superintendent. But how much should we tip? And how can we do it without making anyone feel uncomfortable? We have etiquette expert Jodi Smith to give us all the answers concerning end-of-year tipping. Holiday Self-Care (0:50:32) The last few weeks you’ve gone to approximately 73 different stores, wrapped at least 200 presents, cleaned up 12 broken Christmas tree ornaments, and almost pulled your hair out at least 27 times a day. Sound familiar? The holidays can be a stressful time. Maybe we need to take a little time to decompress, to breath, to do a little holiday self-care. Justin Krasner is a health, fitness, and creativity expert who is with us to talk about one unique solution that may help your holiday season run a little smoother. We’re excited to hear what he has to say! Podcast Recommendations (1:04:52) Do you ever get in a media rut? Kind of like those moments where you look in your fridge and feel as if there’s nothing to eat, when it just seems like there’s nothing good to watch and listen to? We really love podcasts here at the Lisa Show (it’s almost like it’s our job or something…) But sometimes it can be hard to find something new, especially when we don’t know what there is out there! Here to tell us what our next favorite podcast is going to be is Kevin Goldberg, founder and editor of Discover Pods!  Weekend Review (1:23:39) Lisa and Richie share exciting things happening across the country and which new movies you should go see.
