Guest: Beth McFarland, Director of Foundation Programs for the Society for Human Resource Management Foundation A lackluster employment report last week had economists worried about a slowdown, but new data released by the Labor Department on Tuesday offers detail that reveals a more hopeful outlook. The report shows job openings hit a 14-year high in February. Companies are clearly willing to add more workers after being slow to make such a commitment during much of the recovery. But there's a catch here - while companies advertised for new jobs at a quick clip, actual hiring was down. That would suggest that businesses are having trouble finding people with the right skills to fill those jobs - or they're not offering the right wages to attract applicants. Both are concerns that employers will have to deal with in the coming decades, according to a new report by the Society for Human Resource Management Foundation.
