King Arthur and the Knights of the Evergreen Table Originally Aired on: May 28, 2019
Guest: Leah Tether, a faculty member and Co-Director of the Centre for Medieval Studiesat the University of Bristol
Perhaps no legend in the English language has been as enduring as the story of King Arthur. Thousands of off-shoots and iterations of the central Arthurian ideas have led to story after storyof chivalry, conquest, love and magic that could’ve filled the lifetime of a hundred different Arthurs. My professor must have known them all, because he seemed to know everything ... and also because he seemed fairly ancient himself. Where do the Arthurian tales come from? Who is the real Arthur? And why are we still talking about him, the original Arthur that is, the original legend?
Elusive, Extraordinary and Potentially Endangered, The Platypus Swims On Originally Aired on: May 28, 2019
Guest: Josh Griffiths, Senior Wildlife Ecologist at CESAR
Children’s TV shows love to feature animals. If the main character isn’t an animal, then chances are that animals are one of the primary features of the show. You could talk about Shawn the Sheep, Paw Patrol, Backyardagains, Arthur, Spongebob, Wonder Pets, eventually leading up to Phineas and Ferb. Phineas and Ferb have a pet Platypus named Perry that doubles as a secret agent that goes on escapades to protect the city from the evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz. “Where’s Perry?”Is one of the oft repeated lines of the tv show and is actually very true to actual platypuses because they’re terribly difficult to find.
