Exercise with Cold Weather (0:00:00) The cold weather doesn’t have to put our fitness routines on hold. The winter season can provide for some fun and effective opportunities to stay active. Knowing how to stay safe and warm, will help us be able to take advantage of exercising during this time of year. Here to tell us all about being active in the cold weather is Malia Frey. Malia is a certified health coach and personal trainer. Thanksgiving Story (0:14:20) Sam Payne, host of The Apple Seed, shares a special Thanksgiving Story. Immunizations (0:29:00) We wanted to share some tips on vaccinations. Which ones are necessary and when do we need to get them. Here to tell us all about it is Dr. Jay W. Lee. Zero Waste Daniel (0:49:26) What if I told you it was the new trend to start wearing trash? Doesn’t sound too appealing, but did you know nearly 15% of the material used in the fashion industry goes straight to the landfill? Now one New York designer is breaking the trend and setting the standard for the world to turn waste into clothing.  We have the Brooklyn-based fashion pioneer, Daniel Silverstein, with us to talk about his business and the industry’s first line of zero-waste clothing, called Zero Waste Daniel. Refugees and Immigrants (1:01:59) Is there anything scarier than a move? Starting your whole life over is definitely daunting—especially if you’re moving to a place where you don’t speak the language, don’t have a place to stay, or if don’t have a place to work. This is the case of so many immigrants and refugees coming to the United States in search of a safer life and better opportunities for themselves and their children. Here to educate us more about what this experience can be like and how we can help people through this process is Natalie El-Deiry, executive director of the International Rescue Committee in Utah. Food Waste (1:15:01) How much money are you spending on food that you never actually eat? About 60 million tons or $160 billion worth of produce are thrown away in the US each year, and, according to the EPA, wasted food is the number one thing filling up our landfills. So what’s the alternative to throwing out that uneaten food? What can we do at home to help fight this? Here to tell us all about it, is Waste Less Solutions founder, Dana Williamson. Soles4Souls (1:27:00) Now that winter is just around the corner, what is the first thing we do before stepping outside our homes into the November cold? We put our shoes on. Sadly, there is a huge population in the world that doesn’t have the luxury of owning a pair of shoes. It can be dangerous to not have access to your own shoes, especially in countries with extreme heat or hazardous road conditions. This is what inspired the creation of Soles4Souls, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting against world poverty through donations of new and used shoes. We’ve invited director of national partnerships Megan Walsh on the show to talk with us about her experience with the organization and how far donating a pair of shoes can go.
