Oh the places you will go! The Clarion Festival Orchestra and Utah composer Marden Pond come into the studio today to play musical tribute to two special places. First is "To Hallowed Ground," a four-movement memorial that celebrates a daring group of Polish, Russian, and Ukrainian Jewish immigrants who built the now-nonexistent town of Clarion out of nothing right here in Utah. The second is the "Kokopelli Suite," interpreting a Native American figure from legend, best known for playing his flute. Dr Marden Pond is the composer of music on over twenty recorded albums. He has also created music for symphony orchestras, choirs, the ballet stage, film, video productions, modern dance groups, and a wide variety of chamber, studio, commercial and recording ensembles, electronic music, jazz ensembles, commissioned arrangements, and even commercial jingles. He is currently Adjunct faculty at Utah Valley University. The Clarion Festival Orchestra is under the direction of David Beck, with Monte Belknap as viola soloist in "Hallowed Ground" and Daron Bradford as flute soloist on "Kokopelli."
