The Commerce Department just announced this week that question will go back on the full, once-every-ten-years census survey Americans are required to take. It’ll be the first time in 50 years that has been the case. Already, more than a dozen states, led by California, have filed a lawsuit to stop the question from being added. Let’s get a sense of why this is controversial.
