The new graphic novel is called “Wonder Woman: Tempest Tossed” and it’s written by Laurie Halse Anderson –the best-selling author of young adult novels including “Speak” and “Chains.” Can Cone Snail Insulin Treat Diabetes? (1:17:13) Guest: Danny Chou, Professor of Biochemistry, University of Utah Researchers at the University of Utah are currently developing a promising new type of insulin, one that will treat type 1 diabetes more quickly and effectively. The source of this new insulin? Cone snails. Barriers to Science at the US/Mexico Border (1:30:13) Guest: Myles Traphagen, Borderlands Program Coordinator at Wildlands Network The US/Mexico border is a hot spot for geologists, biologists, archaeologists, and even social scientists to conduct research. But that work has become harder because of dangerous drug cartels and increasing militarization of the border. Myles Traphagen works for Wildlands Network in Tucson, Arizona where he coordinates their borderlands program. He co-authored some research recently surveying scientists about the challenges of doing work at the border.
