Summertime and the livin’ is easy,” so said the great George Gershwin in his classic song. It’s nearing the end of summer but we wanted to share with you some classic tales that reminded us of summertime. We all have great summer memories - biking with your friends, going on adventures, playing baseball, climbing rocks and wading in rivers, visiting family and coming home again. It’s one of the greatest times of the year when the days are long and the weather is hot, and we wanted to bring you some classic stories that remind us of those good memories. You’ll hear Norah Dooley tell “When Our Streetlights Come On,” a story about biking with her brother. Tim Lowry shares “Summer,” a collection of stories that remind him of summers as a kid growing up in South Carolina. You’ll hear Olga Loya tell “Opossum and Coyote” a classic myth about an old trickster. And finally you’ll hear Allison Downey sing about coming home again. We hope these stories will remind you of some summer memories that you can keep with you all year long. On today’s episode, enjoy the following: “When Our Streetlights Come On” by Norah Dooley from My Bad, Bad Dog and Other Stories (2:45) Radio Family Journal: "Pine Creek Canyon" by Sam Payne (14:03) The Daily Mix: "TV Time" with Jeff Simpson (20:12) “Summer” by Tim Lowry from My Favorite Time of Year (28:02) “Opossum and Coyote” by Olga Loya from Tio Conejo (Uncle Rabbit) and other Latin American Trickster Tales (45:48) “Texas (Home Again) by Allison Downey from Across the Sea (52:32)
